In the early 70s, one of the surf film genre’s founding fathers came out of retirement to make his last and best movie yet. He handed legendary surfer Gerry Lopez a small hand-held, waterproof camera and let him take it out at Pipeline. At the end of the session, Gerry gave filmmaker Bud Browne footage of the inside of the tube looking out, then backwards into the tunnel and everything in between. In return, Bud Browne gave us another classic film that would continue to define the genre for decades to come.
